Integration

Server-side IP lookup API and additional product APIs

Where IPQualityScore fits

IPQualityScore is useful when the application already knows the account and needs more context about its connection. The proxy API returns named fields, which lets an engineer retain the underlying information rather than flattening every lookup into one block decision.

Collection and outputs

Send the observed IP through the server-side API and inspect classification fields alongside the fraud score and documented contextual fields. Use only inputs you actually observe or verify; a client-supplied claim about the connection should not replace the source IP at a trusted boundary.

Scope of the product reviewed
Evidence areaDocumented role
NetworkVPN, proxy, Tor, fraud score and network context
DeviceSeparate device fingerprinting products are available
Account contextIP fraud and abuse context; wider products have separate scope

Freshness and integration handling

Store when you performed the lookup. An IP-level result describes a connection address at that point, not every future visitor who might receive the same address. Network changes and address reuse can change the relevance of a cached decision.

Strengths

Limits and plan conditions

This review compares the proxy detection API. Do not treat the fields in that response as a complete device identity or account investigation product.

What to check in a pilot

Test ordinary mobile traffic, a corporate exit, an approved VPN and a known test proxy. Compare fields such as VPN, recent abuse and shared connection separately, then measure the effect of your chosen handling on legitimate logins.

Use the evaluation framework to record collection completeness, the reasons returned and the customer outcome. Compare the cost of your actual checks, not just the number of accounts in your database.

Consider an alternative when

The missing capability is persistent device continuity or a ready-made account event, rather than network enrichment. Compare a device-and-account platform and the collection it requires.

FAQ

Does the proxy API identify a returning browser?

An IP lookup by itself does not create a persistent browser identity. IPQS offers separate device products; evaluate their collection and pricing independently.

Should a high IP fraud score block every login?

The action depends on account history, authentication and the sensitivity of the operation. A step-up check may be a better response than a universal block.

Are all IPQS products covered by one allowance?

Check the account’s current product-specific credit rules. The public free credit total is not evidence that every product has identical consumption.
